Today I’m going to discuss 5 Facts about Asthma.
Asthma is a medical condition that causes narrowing of the airways.
It is for this reason that patients with asthma may develop a cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, and produce a whistling sound when they breathe called a wheeze.
Asthma can be exacerbated by a number of factors including pollens, grasses, mould, pet saliva, pet skin, pet fur, cigarette smoke, environmental fumes, and even cold ambient temperatures.
All patients with Asthma should have an annual Asthma Management Plan, which is a written plan which describes their current medication and the processes they should follow if they develop an exacerbation of symptoms.
It’s also important that all patients with asthma have appropriate vaccinations including an annual Influenza vaccine, a Pneumococcal or Pneumonia vaccine, and a COVID-19 vaccine.
